This documentary tells the story of one of the most significant anti-Nazi resistance groups during the Third Reich. Using archival footage, interviews with descendants, and stylized animations, it traces the clandestine activities of a group of intellectuals, artists, and workers who defied the Nazi regime through espionage and sabotage, often paying with their lives.
An intense work capturing the essence of the fight against totalitarianism, it underscores the vital importance of historical memory.
La Deutsche Vita: A Journey Through German Cinema
This year, the film series celebrates the 80th anniversary of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, a pioneer of New German Cinema. His fearless storytelling exposed societal hypocrisy, power dynamics, and human contradictions. A tribute screening of Mother Küsters Goes to Heaven highlights themes of class, family, and postwar struggles. The program also explores memory, war, justice, and women’s roles, with motherhood symbolizing resilience amid today’s crises.
